Renee Rouger Bio
Renne was introduced to Tango as a dance expression by the legendary Maria Nieves in 1985 when the show “Tango Argentino” came to New York. The stage was shared for the first time by the most influential couples from the 1940s to the 80s, featuring Virulazo & Elvira; Juan Carlos Copes & Maria Nieves; Nelida & Nelson; Los Dinzels; Gloria & Eduardo; Maria & Carlos Rivarola and more.
In the 90’s she attended the exclusive Tango Tertulias at Odel Bauer’s Teddy Bear’s Factory on 19th street and Broadway and became close acquaintance of Daniel Carpi; Mario Cesar: Ruben; Karina Muller; Coco Aguirre; Juan Pablo Vicente; Lexa Rosen and Carlos Duarte de Chey, whom was also her teacher. Overtime her relationship with the Tango community and performers opened her doors into the Tango industry in New York City. In 2001, Renee produced and performed as an actress in the Tango play “Dream of Tango.” Her cast members included dancers from the Broadway show “Forever Tango,” Cecilia Saia; Carolina Zokalski and Diego Di Falco, whom was also the show’s choreographer. The musical director and violin player was Leonardo Suarez Paz. Leonardo is the only violinist soloist who ever played in two Argentinean Tango Shows,“Tango Argentino“and “Forever Tango”.
Renee took her first Tango Steps with Gloria y Eduardo and studied at Studio Dinzel’s; with Master Susana Miller, Master Silvio La Via and attended many workshops, including Master Pablo Veron and Master Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne’s. No long ago she received artistic guidance from Master Jorge Torres and Master Diego Di Falco. More recently she received instruction from Master Claudio Villagra and Helena Fernandez.
Priorly in Argentina, Renee’s career took flight dancing ballet at Olga Ferri’s Studio and getting her feet wet dancing Jazz with Noemi Cohelo and Rodolfo Olguin. She studied acting at the prestigious IFT School of Theater and had dual roles as an actress and dancer at the world renown play “El diluvio que viene” with Miguel Angel Trelles, Vicky Buchino and Graciela Pal. She also appeared on television in Argentina, dancing on the shows “Alberto y Susana” with Alberto Olmedo and Susana Jimenez and “Las tres medias de Andres” with Andres Percivale. She performed as a dancer with Antonio Gasalla alongside with Alejandra Aquino and Cecilia Narova.
In New York she joined Joe Cavise company, produced and performed at “Dream of Tango” and last year with Pedrito, the Porteno Dummy from Paul Pellicoro Studio, at Gayatri’s “ USA Tango Championship” and at the “Parakultural Milonga” in Buenos Aires last January.
This summer she organized her owned Milonga “Lo de Renee” at Buenos Aires Restaurant Annex.
